This page was created in the spring of 1999. Originally, the intent of this page was to pursue a methodology that would allow me to map out a new understanding of the shared space of butch women and transgendered men. I grounded my research in a 1998 speech by Leslie Feinberg, exhorting butch women to consider claiming the trans title for their own.
Since then, I've found that popular culture has moved much faster than academia to explore the multidimensional continuum that has FTM and butch as plot points within it. The ideas of "butch" and "ftm" no longer seem as unyeilding as they did when this project was initiated. Drag King clubs, attention to FTMs in popular media (including the Internet), and numerous other factors have made a border war between butch and FTM almost a moot issue. This wave of information has brought attention to this space between and within, and academics are rushing to explore this newly "discovered" territory.
This aim of this bibliography remains the same: to allow readers to respond to writings.
